US President Joe Biden has landed in London, UK, where he will meet King Charles III, before heading to the NATO summit in Lithuania. Biden arrived at Stansted airport.

The Democratic leader, who took off aboard Air Force One from a military base in Delaware, will conclude his trip with a visit to Finland, the newest member of the Atlantic Alliance.

On Monday, he will meet Charles III at Windsor Castle for the first time since the Briton’s coronation, at which Joe Biden was represented by his wife Jill Biden.

The two heads of state will mainly address environmental issues, according to the White House. The US President will then meet Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street.

But the highlight of the tour will be the NATO summit on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, where the Western allies will discuss supporting Ukraine against the Russian invasion. The democrat hopes to use the opportunity to convince Turkey to accept Sweden’s NATO candidacy.

In a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday, Biden “conveyed his desire to welcome Sweden into NATO as soon as possible,” the White House said. Both “expressed their commitment to continue supporting Ukraine,” the statement added.

Erdogan’s office noted in turn that the Turkish president would meet Biden during the NATO summit in Vilnius.

The talks will focus on “Ukraine’s position in NATO, Sweden’s accession to NATO, and the delivery of F-16 fighter jets,” which Turkey hopes to get from the United States, the Turkish presidency said.
