What happened on Saturday July 8, during the dispersal of the march in memory of Adama Traoré, a young man who died during his arrest by the gendarmes in 2016? At the end of a short parade which took place overall in calm, Yssoufou Traoré – the brother of Adama Traoré and Assa Traoré, figure of the committee La Vérité pour Adama, which intends to fight against police violence – was arrested by police officers from the BRAV-M, brigade for the repression of violent motorcyclist action. He is implicated for “violence on a person holding public authority”, according to a statement from the Paris Police Prefecture.
Mr. Traoré was first taken to a police station, where he was notified of his custody. But there is makes you feel unwell. He was then taken to the hospital by the fire department. His police custody will be lifted during the night, while he was still hospitalized. He was released from the hospital on Sunday at midday.
His lawyer, Yassine Bouzrou, considers, with the Mondethat if the police custody was so quickly lifted, it is because “the prosecution has understood how fanciful the reasons for arresting Mr. Traoré and the charges against him are”. In a press release, the lawyer summarizes the situation: “Yssoufou Traoré was the victim of violence committed by BRAV-M police officers who seem disproportionate and illegitimate, he notably suffered a belly tackle. »

Me Bouzrou lists the injuries of his client: “A broken nose, head trauma with eye contusion, thoracic, abdominal and lumbar contusions revealing the violence of the ventral tackle suffered. » He also announces that he will file a complaint for “aggravated willful violence”. Contacted, the Prefecture of Police was unable to provide further details. The Paris prosecutor’s office, for its part, declares that “the investigation is ongoing”il “does not wish to discuss the merits of the case at this stage”nor react to the declarations of Me Bouzrou.

The arrest of Mr. Traoré was filmed and the images corroborate the account given by Mr. Bouzrou. This video quickly found its way onto social media. We see Mr. Traoré with other people below the Gare de l’Est, a few meters from the place where the La Vérité pour Adama committee had called for a calm dispersal. We hear him say that he “will not move” from where it is.
BRAV-M police officers approach. A scuffle ensues, Mr. Traoré tries to run away. A policeman grabs him and puts him on the ground, and several of his colleagues join him to tackle him. In all, they are four, then three to keep him on the ground, on his stomach. A young woman approaches to protest. She is violently pushed by a policeman and falls. Me Bouzrou announces, moreover, to file a complaint following these actions, again for “aggravated willful violence”.
