London: Leicester City shocked the English Premier League football giants Liverpool. The difference between last-placed Liverpool and top-placed Manchester City, who lost to Leicester by a single goal in last night’s match, has risen to six. In another match, Southampton drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur.
Ademola Lukman scored the decisive goal in the 59th minute of the match at Kingpower Stadium, Leicester’s home ground. Leicester goalkeeper and captain Caspar Schmeichel, who blocked more than four shots on goal, including a penalty by Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, led the team to victory.
Schmeichel opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Salah’s penalty kick was deflected. With this defeat, Liverpool remain in second place with 41 points from 19 matches. This is Liverpool’s second defeat of the season. Manchester City are top with 47 points from 19 matches. Leicester are ninth with 25 points from 18 games.
Tottenham and Southampton drew 1-1. Superstar Harry Kane and Southampton captain James Ward Prouse scored from the penalty spot for Tottenham. Southampton drew level with Tottenham in the 39th minute despite being reduced to 10 men. The referee did not score in favor of Tottenham despite scoring twice. With this draw, Tottenham finished sixth with 30 points from 17 matches. Southampton are 13th.
In other matches Crystal Palace beat Norwich City by three goals to none, while West Ham beat Watford by four goals to one.
