A failed British Grand Prix for Alpine, and a comeback Pierre Gasly. The French Formula 1 driver, forced to retire after contact with the Aston Martin of Canadian Lance Stroll on the Silverstone track on Sunday, came to explain himself with another competitor in the mixed zone in the wake of the race. The target of his wrath? The Spaniard from Ferrari Carlos Sainz, guilty in his eyes of a risky maneuver when they were neck and neck on the circuit.

On this video captured in the space dedicated to interviews, we see Pierre Gasly pass behind Sainz’s back and give him an annoyed pat on the arm, before pointing his finger. “Don’t crush me like that,” he says, annoyed. The Italian team driver barely turns around and continues his interview looking a little embarrassed as the Frenchman from Alpine files off to answer questions from other media.

In the mixed zone, Gasly then mainly talked about his retirement after the breakage of his suspension caused by contact with Lance Stroll on the 46th lap. “I am extremely disappointed, Lance caused our abandonment, he laments. The first part of the race was going well, we were fighting with Fernando (Alonso), we had a good rhythm, it was good to be in this group. And all efforts were ruined by what happened next. There is no uniformity in the sanctions, I don’t understand. I’ve been penalized several times in the past for the same thing, and Lance hasn’t. It is not fair. »

“We had already had no luck with the safety car since I had entered the pits just before, everything went in the wrong direction today so it’s very frustrating, he continues. We shouldn’t look at what others are doing, we should concentrate on ourselves and improve our car. New things should be coming soon, and I hope they will be positive. »

The single-seaters from Alpine must be improved during the summer, logically in view of the Belgian Grand Prix at the end of July. In the meantime, the French team is sixth in the constructors’ standings, which is aiming for fourth place. In the drivers’ standings, Gasly is twelfth while his French teammate, Esteban Ocon, is tenth after also being forced to retire at Silverstone.
