Thanks to the inter-institutional work of the Isidro Ayora Gynecology Obstetric Hospital and the Nueva Aurora Luz Elena Arismendi Pediatric Gynecology Obstetric Hospital, 4-month-old Kylian underwent surgery for a diagnosis of craniosynostosis with favorable results. The surgery will allow her brain to develop optimally and not present sequelae in her growth process.

Kylian was born at the Isidro Ayora Gynecological Obstetric Hospital (HGOIA), where upon completing his controls, the specialists detected a defect in the shape of his head. He was immediately evaluated by the doctor William Gordón, pediatric neurosurgeon at HGOIA, who through a CT scan diagnosed craniosynostosis.

The specialist explains that the pathology is a defect where the joints of the skull close early, therefore, the shape of the head is asymmetrical, which can cause severe damage to the brain.

With the diagnosis identified, the Comprehensive Public Health Network (RPIS) was immediately activated, where thanks to the joint work between the HGONA and the HGOIA, the surgery called Remodeling Craniectomy was performed, a surgical intervention that modifies the shape of the skull so that the brain can be develop freely and avoid complications in the growth of the baby.

The little boy received post-operative care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Nueva Aurora Luz Elena Arismendi Pediatric Gynecology-Obstetric Hospital, evolving favorably after surgery.

Leonardo Campoverde, father of the minor, thanked the two health homes for the care received, since they have worked in coordination so that his little one is operated on in a timely manner and with excellent results. Currently, the baby receives permanent care and medical surveillance for her full recovery.
