With the aim of strengthening the prevention and diagnosis of Breast Cancer in Quito and the country, this Monday, June 10, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) delivered a new high-tech mammograph to the Isidro Ayora Gynecology and Obstetric Hospital (HGOIA ).
The Vice Minister of Comprehensive Health Care, Carmen Guerrero, and the hospital manager, Alex Robalino, were in charge of giving this excellent news to users and health professionals.
Modern equipment includes tomosynthesis and an image digitizer for general radiography. In addition, it performs more advanced exams, through cuts and 3D reconstructions. The investment was USD 345 thousand.
Vice Minister Guerrero announced the delivery of five more mammographs this year and the purchase of 20 new ones by 2024. “This equipment will be distributed to the largest hospitals in the country,” she emphasized. In addition, she assured that, within the Project Management of Oncological Patients for the Prevention of Breast Cancer, the MSP invests USD 103 million nationwide.
Like Eufemia Espín, 37, who was found to have an abscess in her right breast in 2018, 1,400 more women will be the beneficiaries each year in the mastology service, which since 2018 did not have a mammograph.
“I thank the Ministry of Health for the new mammograph for the benefit of many women. It is an enormous help for people like me who do not have economic possibilities”, indicated Espín.
This health home registered 3,519 cares in this specialty in 2022. 40% of patients seen in outpatient clinics need a mammography study. “The operation of this new equipment is of great importance for all the women who need this screening,” said manager Robalino.
The MSP, through the HGOIA, guarantees access to health for all women in the country, with quality services, imaging technology, rapid digitalization and easy analysis of bone structure.
