The Business Federation of the Spanish Chemical Industry (Feique) has awarded today, for the eleventh consecutive year, the Feique Safety Awards to twenty-nine companies and/or production centers attached to Feique, which have reached a rate of “zero accidents” during the last anus. The awards have been delivered by the director of CEOE’s Department of Employment, Diversity and Social Protection, Rosa Santos, together with the general director of Feique, Juan Antonio Labat.

These awards represent recognition of the high level of excellence and dedication of chemical companies in terms of the safety and health of their workers, which affects the culture of prevention and the sector’s commitment to continuous improvement in these areas.

During the event, the Report on Occupational Accidents in the Chemical Sector 2022a study that collects in detail the classification of accidents with sick leave that took place last year, as well as the statistical indices of companies associated with Feique in the field of worker health and safety.

If we compare our results with other economic activities, we present an accident incidence rate that in 2022 was 4.3 times lower than that registered by the Industry as a whole, 2.8 times lower than the national average and 6 times less than the construction sector.

This means that one accident occurs in Feique companies for every 160,000 hours worked. In this way, the report reflects the high levels of safety with which companies in the chemical sector affiliated to the Federation operate, who mostly apply the international Responsible Care program for the continuous improvement of occupational health and safety, environmental protection and Corporate Social Responsibility. After more than 35 years of implementation in Spain, Responsible Care has contributed not only to significantly raising the security levels of the sector, but also to promoting the application of best practices in the field of prevention and security in a sector made up of more than of 230,000 direct jobs.

As assessed by the CEO of Feique, Juan Antonio Labat: “At Feique, as well as at all the companies that make it up, we are deeply committed to improving occupational risk prevention, proof of this is the high number of companies that have been awarded today for their good results last year. The application of the Responsible Care program over time has been key in this continuous progress in safety and prevention”.
