On July 15, it will be performed at the Roman Theater in Itálica (Santiponce, in the province of Seville), carnationby the hand of Rocio Molina. Piece with which the present edition of the Festival of Itálica will close.

No matter how much one belongs to a particular tradition, there comes a point where there are figures on the scene who are inescapable. She is an Andalusian professional who, at twenty-six, has been awarded the National Dance Award (2010), being one of the bailaoras with the greatest international projection, among many other things, who does not take advantage of such opportunities to see one of the works of Rocio MolinaAt least it’s nonsense. And before delaying this preview about carnation artificially (since this professional does not require introductions), I prefer to refer you directly to the synopsis of this creation:

Carnation,
word that, inevitably,
refers to the act of becoming flesh,
to the possibility
to be touched

carnation is a performance by Rocío Molina in collaboration with Niño de Elche, Olalla Alemán, Pepe Benítez and Maureen Choi on stage, and co-directed by Juan Kruz Díaz Garaio from Esnaola.

We are facing a search around desire that starts from the intuition that its origin and meaning is related to a state that we can only access through the body. The care, the repression, the tenderness, the violence; a carnal relationship from which images emerge capable of restoring a past that we cannot understand. When trying to do so, both his most carnal and his most transcendental forms are revealed as two sides of the same coin. And it is that, sweet and bitter, fullness and lack, desire reminds us of the vulnerability of the human condition.

The word carnación, which in pictorial language refers to the process of coloring meat, leads us to think, on the one hand, of the passage from the imaginary to the visible, from what is hidden to what is shown. On the other hand, it is inevitable to think about the biblical idea of the verb that is incarnated. Verb that, in the language of the work, takes the form of desire.
