In May, the Parliament adopted the amendment of the individual health, health insurance and pharmaceutical laws, in which, among other changes, it was also included that some rural hospitals became maintainers: for example, the Csongrád-Csanád County Chest Diseases Specialist Hospital in Deskz and the Csongrád-Csanád County Dr in Szentes István Bugyi Hospital was transferred to the University of Szeged. According to this, the hospital in Szentes will bear the name Szentesi University of Szeged Szent-Györgyi Albert Clinical Center Dr. Bugyi István Szentesi Multidisciplinary Center from July 1st. However, the change does not only affect the name of the hospital, the reorganization is expected to increase the efficiency of patient care.
Obstetrics is reopening
In connection with the hospital in Szentes, an inevitable question is the development of the fate of obstetrics. Since January 1, 2023, most services at the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital in Szentes have been suspended. The re-opening of the department was promised in March by the middle of the summer, but due to the adoption of the health care law and changes in the hospital’s management, this will be postponed to September.
Of course, there are difficulties, as in every transformation, but they can be solved. It is important to state that the departments of the hospital in Szentes will remain. It was a very difficult moment for us when the maternity hospital stopped working from January 1. However, the class will start again from September at the latest
– announced Deputy Minister Sándor Farkas, the region’s parliamentary representative.
The goal is efficiency
László Rovó, the rector of the University of Szeged, in connection with the integration of the Szentes hospital, emphasized that it is a great honor, but also a great challenge for the University of Szeged to accept rural institutions.
We are taking a very important efficiency-enhancing step in the supply of Csongrád-Csanád county. On the one hand, we integrate the health institutions that have come to us, and on the other hand, the care of the county will operate on the basis of a unified coordination in the future
said László Rovó.
He added that they are also looking for a solution to the problems typical of the wards in Szentes, i.e. mainly the shortage of doctors.
