The Stellantis plant in Figueruelas is already working on the next Peugeot electric model, the e-208. A project that still does not have official confirmation on the final location in which the production will take place, and in the face of pressure from the French government so that the chosen plant is in the neighboring country.
This Wednesday the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, has supported the manufacture of the new model in Spain, stating that the Stellantis plant in Figueruelas (Zaragoza) has achieved “quality results, energy efficiency, productivity and climate that make it the most competitive candidate” to produce the Peugeot e-208 starting in autumn.
Thus, Gómez has argued that Spain is an “enormously attractive” country for investment by different companies, including Stellantis, which already has three factories in our country (Vigo, Zaragoza and Madrid). “We fully trust that the multinational will decide the best location for the Peugeot e-208,” he added.
From the Ministry they have pointed out that the contact of the Government of Spain with manufacturers and big brands is “constant”, although they consider it necessary to work with “absolute discretion” so that this type of project comes to fruition.
The new Peugeot e-208 will start manufacturing in November 2023 F. p.
The Peugeot 208 has enjoyed uninterrupted success since its launch at the end of 2019. In just over three years, almost 1,000,000 units of the 208 have been produced worldwide. In 2021 and 2022, the 208 was the best-selling car in Europe, in all segments combined.
In 2022, the e-208 became Europe’s best-selling electric car in the B-segment. In France last year, it was even the best-selling electric car in all segments.
The new Peugeot e-208 production will begin in November 2023. The range will be based on three versions: ACTIVE, ALLURE, GT, and five engines, including the new 115 kW/156 HP electric motor, which offers a range of 400 km (WLTP combined cycle, subject to approval), and the new HYBRID 100 and HYBRID 136 engines.
