On the morning of this Wednesday it has been confirmed that the CPI data, advanced a few days ago by the INE, is reduced to 1.9%. One of the first to assess it has been the First Vice President of the Government, Nadia Calviño.

Calviño has celebrated the data and has assured that it is “very good news that inflation has dropped so much”. According to the first vice president, it is also good news that “core inflation continues to moderate”. “We have to continue in the line of moderation, especially in food, which is why we have extended saving measures in the second part of the year,” she adds.

During his speech, Calviño has also advanced that the Government expects “to be at levels much lower than those of last year.”

Along the same lines, the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, has stated that “Spain is the country that has the best behavior in the euro area.” From Barcelona, Bolaños has taken advantage of the assessment of the CPI data to attack Feijóo, assuring that he “will give false, manipulated data.”

Feijóo questions the interpretation made by the Government

For his part, the president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, traveled this morning to Murcia and, from there, criticized the Government’s assessments of the CPI data.

For Feijóo, underlying inflation is still very high, “almost 6%.” According to the popular leader, with “inflation above the European Union before the Ukraine war, you cannot say that you have controlled prices.”
