LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) said on Thursday it was working closely with Microsoft (NASDAQ:) to understand the impact of an attack blamed on China.
Email accounts used by high-ranking officials and US government agencies were accessed in the attack, officials said.
On Tuesday, Microsoft revealed that a Chinese hacking operation exploited a secret flaw in one of its authentication software to break into email accounts belonging to 25 unidentified organizations.
“We are working with Microsoft to fully understand the incident and its impact on the UK,” said a spokesman for the NCSC, which is part of the British spy agency GCHQ.
