In Brazil, every worker who is hired with a formal contract, that is, under the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT) regime, has the working hours stipulated in his contract.

The duration of work, as it is also known as the journey, corresponds to the period in which the employee must be available to the company on a daily basis.

It is worth remembering that, despite the fulfillment of the working day, every employee has the right to time for meals and transportation of the worker to the company, which are not included in this duration.

It is important to make it clear that labor legislation requires, in writing, the value of the journey, which has a limit of 44 hours per week and 220 hours per month, according to the CLT.

This total can in turn be broken down into various types of work schedules. Check out each of them below:

4×2 scale

The 4×2 work schedule mainly serves a six-hour day, totaling 24 hours a week.

In these types of cases, four consecutive six-hour shifts are performed, with the right to two days off.

To apply this scale in the company, legal validation by the class union is required, or approval in a collective labor agreement. It is also possible through an individual work agreement between the employee and the employer.

5×2 scale

In the case of the 5×2 scale, for every five working days, the employee must receive two days off, whether consecutive or not.

Thus, the 44-hour week is distributed over five days of the week for approximately 8h48 a day.

6×1 scale

The 6×1 scale establishes a maximum of six days of work for one day of rest.

Employees who work weekends are entitled to a day off on Sunday every seven weeks.

It is worth noting that women are required to take a Sunday off every 15 days.

6×2 scale

In the 6×2 scale, the employee works six days a week for up to eight hours and two days off.

12×36 scale

On the 12×36 scale, the employee does a 12-hour working day and the subsequent 36 hours off, in a kind of workday compensation.

Therefore, if he worked on Monday from 10 am to 10 pm, his next working day will be on Wednesday at the same time.

It is worth noting that, in some cases, due to collective agreements and union agreements, this journey allows time off beyond the 36h break.

24×48 scale

In the 24×48 scale model, for every 24 hours worked, the employee is entitled to 48 hours of rest.

Therefore, if he has completed a work period from 8:00 am to 8:00 am on a Monday, his next shift will start at 8:00 am on Thursday.

Scale 40×48

The 40×48 scale is a time compensation system that alternates between 40 hours in one week and 48 hours in another.

An important point to be highlighted is that the adjustment of this type of work shift is carried out through an agreement or collective agreement.

In addition, there are modified 40×48 weeks, for example, part-time work on Saturdays or compensation for Saturday hours with an extra hour four days a week.
