British intelligence services claim that the Wagner Group rebellion could have contributed to Moscow’s decision

MADRID, 14 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UK Intelligence says “internal security concerns” stemming from the brief Wagner Group rebellion may have contributed to Russia’s decision not to deploy nuclear-powered missiles on Army Day, which falls on the 30th. July in Saint Petersburg.

Russian state media indicated on Wednesday that these Northern Fleet submarines will not participate in these acts, which marks the first time that this day — established in 2017 — is celebrated without them.

“The change is probably due to maintenance issues and to maintain capacity for operations and training,” the British Intelligence services have said, according to a statement published by the British Ministry of Defense through its account on the social network Twitter.

However, they have asserted that “there is also a realistic possibility that internal security concerns since the attempted mutiny by the Wagner Group may have contributed to the decision.”

Prigozhin led a rebellion on June 24 that included the advance of his forces towards the capital, Moscow, although hours later an agreement was reached that implied the withdrawal of the members of the Wagner Group with a view to their possible integration into the Army and the Drop of charges for those involved in the revolt.
