Time.news – La production of series and films in Hollywood will be completely frozen: after the writers, stopped for more than two months, American actors have also decided to go on strike, for what is expected to be the worst industry shutdown in over 60 years.
“The national board of SAG-AFTRA has unanimously voted to go on strike against studios and broadcasters,” said Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, national executive director of this union which represents 160,000 actors and other film and television professionals.

The strike will begin tonight at midnight Los Angeles time. The actors will thus join the screenwritersi, who have stopped working since the beginning of May. A double social struggle never seen since 1960 in Hollywood.
The two professions ask for an increase in their salaryin the era of streaming. They also want assurances on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), to prevent the latter from generating scripts or cloning voice and image.
The actors’ strike will deal a serious blow to the industry. The Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represented the studios and streaming platforms in the negotiations, said it was “very disappointed” by their failure. Disney boss Bob Iger even spoke about the “unrealistic” demands on CNBC. Since May, the only productions that have decided to shoot have done so on the basis of scripts already completed in the spring, without being able to modify them. But, without actors, filming is simply not possible. Only a few talk shows and reality shows could continue.
