One of the big problems in the world today is violence. This situation is not exclusive to a country or region but is present throughout the planet. In addition, there are no safe places either because even in the most guarded places, incidents with fatal consequences occur. The most recent was recorded within a hospital because a patient decided to end the life of a surgeon.
Now, when talking about firearms, the country with the highest number of aggressions and attacks is the United States. In fact, it has generated a debate about the possibility of restricting the carrying of pistols due to the constant shootings that occur.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were firearms in 79% of all homicides and in 53% of all suicides registered in that country during 2020. Not even the Covid-19 pandemic was able to lower the numbers.
In that same year, the rates of homicides with firearms increased in all age groups, although the greatest increase occurred among people between the ages of 10 and 44. There have even been attacks with fatal consequences inside schools.
Patient attacks surgeon inside a hospital
After the previous context, now is the time to learn about a recent case that confirms the violence that is experienced in the American Union. In accordance with USA Today everything happened within Campbell Clinic Orthopaedics en Tennessee.
Inside the hospital was the Dr. Benjamin Mauckwho was unexpectedly confronted by a patient identified by the authorities as Larry Pickens, 29 years old. The young man was carrying a firearm and when facing the doctor he activated it. The aggression was sudden because it caused the immediate death of the doctor.
Dr. Benjamin Mauck, a Tennessee surgeon, was shot to death in an exam room by a patient who laid in wait at the clinic for “several hours” before carrying out the targeted attack.

An atmosphere of tension was immediately generated among those present, which facilitated the escape of the aggressor. Thanks to the prompt arrival of the police, an operation was organized and within a few minutes the presumed perpetrator was captured.
As a result of all of the above, the young man remains in custody and is now charged with first degree murder. What has not been verified is the reason why he decided to undertake this action with fatal consequences.
For their part, the companions of the murdered doctor remain dismayed. Everyone was surprised by what happened and now they ask for justice to be done.
Who was Dr. Benjamin Mauck?
In his case, he was a graduate of Lambuth University School of Medicine and the University of Tennessee-Memphis. While he later specialized as a surgeon at the UT-Campbell Clinic. While since 2012 he was part of the Campbell Clinic Orthopedics staff.
For now, the fatal attack by the patient against the surgeon inside his own hospital is the largest example of the high levels of violence that are currently being experienced.
