Tom Cruise has accustomed us to spectacular stunts. In theaters since July 12, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning part 1” is full of moments of titanic action scenes, between the airport, the chase in the streets of Rome, or the final train scene. During this last sequence, Ethan Hunt does the unthinkable: a motocross jump into the void from a cliff, before parachuting. This is also the first scene that was shot in the entire film.
And as Tom Cruise is used to, he himself performed this impressive stunt in Hellesylt, Norway. In a making-of video, director Christophe McQuarrie explains that it was “the first time [qu’ils prenaient] such a risk.” For this sequence, it took years of preparation. Between the relentless training but also the millimeter calculations of the actor’s trajectories to be able to film the sequence in the most immersive way possible, this sequence has was a headache to shoot, especially since the stunt was performed without lining, without protection except for the parachute, and without a green background.

Ce Mission Impossible thus succeeds the skilful mixture between pure spectacle and modern political reflection, between entertainment and seriousness. First, on the dangers of artificial intelligence at the geopolitical, artistic and individual level. But this seventh episode also questions the franchise, reusing themes and scenes from the saga to open up to the future, in particular with the characters of Hayley Atwell and Pom Klementieff, overwhelming with charisma, who almost manage to steal the spotlight from franchise veterans. “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1” will reconcile everyone for sure, fans of the saga, and those who have not been convinced so far.

The most attentive spectators will not have missed it, the seventh opus of the impossible franchise is entitled “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning part 1”.
