Washington Crossing, PA – Tragedy struck on Saturday evening as flash flooding wreaked havoc on roadways in Washington Crossing, Bucks County, claiming the lives of three adults. According to the Bucks County Coroner’s Office, two women and one man were found outside their car, submerged under approximately five feet of water. The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. near the intersection of Washington Crossing Road and Wrightstown Road.

Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying scene as torrents of rain caused roads to turn into treacherous rivers. One man, whose wife was driving at the time, described how their car was suddenly engulfed by water, causing it to flip over. The area was filled with stranded vehicles, some of which were toppled over, and fallen trees littered the landscape. Part of Washington Crossing Road in Upper Makefield Township even suffered significant damage.

In response to reports of cars stranded on flooded roadways, multiple marine units were dispatched for search and rescue operations. However, despite their efforts, authorities revealed that there are still some individuals unaccounted for. The Bucks County Coroner’s Office and local police continue to work tirelessly, promising to provide more information as the night progresses.

The region experienced a deluge of rainfall, with the Next Weather team reporting between three and a half to four inches of rain falling in just two hours on Saturday afternoon. As a result, numerous roads in both Upper and Lower Makefield Township remain closed, with several of them having been completely washed away.

PennDOT has released a list of road closures due to flooding, including Route 32 (River Road) from Woodside Road to Route 532 (General Washington Memorial Boulevard) in Upper Makefield and Lower Makefield Townships, Route 232 (Windy Bush Road) between Aquetong Road and Route 32 (River Road) in Solebury Township, Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road) from Dolington Road to Taylorsville Road in Upper Makefield Township, and Taylorsville Road from Woodside Road to Route 532 (Washington Crossing Road) in Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield Townships.
