According to the recent report “The Future of Work 2023” by the World Economic Forum, a significant transformation in jobs is expected in the coming years.

It is estimated that around 23% of occupations will change by 2027, resulting in the creation of 69 million new jobs and the elimination of 83 million positions.

These data were obtained from the analysis of a database with 673 million jobs on a global scale, in a study involving 803 companies.

Jobs expected to see the fastest growth include artificial intelligence and machine learning specialists, sustainability-focused professionals, business intelligence analysts, and information security specialists.

In addition, other professions are also expected to see significant growth, such as architects and surveyors, renewable energy engineers and specialists in solar energy systems, as global economies increasingly turn to sustainable energy sources.

The sectors of education (with emphasis on professional education teachers and university professors), agriculture (especially operators of agricultural equipment) and digital commerce (specialists in e-commerce, digital transformation and digital strategy and marketing) are also expected to experience significant absolute growth.

In Brazil and around the world, “big data” leads the ranking of technologies identified as boosting jobs. About 51% of Brazilian respondents believe that there will be growth in jobs related to this field.

Companies are increasingly looking for professionals trained in both digital data analysis and data analysis that need to be digitized, as executives recognize that technology brings gains in operational efficiency.

Careers related to artificial intelligence will continue to rise, as knowledge of algorithms is becoming increasingly relevant in companies’ strategies. Areas such as mathematics, physics, statistics and economics are becoming increasingly relevant, as they are all interconnected by algorithms. Professionals who master the theory and are capable of building algorithms suitable for different businesses will have a lasting career and avoid lags.

To meet the market demand for these new professionals, universities are investing in the development of digital skills. This is one of the ways to prepare for the future of the job market that is already around the corner.
