Taylor Swift Makes History with Four Albums in Top 10 of US Album Chart Simultaneously and Breaks Barbra Streisand’s Record for Most No 1 Albums by a Female Artist
In an impressive feat, Taylor Swift has solidified her status as one of the biggest forces in the music industry today. The 33-year-old superstar has become the first woman, and only the third artist ever, to have four albums in the Top 10 of the US album chart simultaneously.
Swift’s latest album, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200, making it her fifth consecutive No 1 album in the US. The album achieved a remarkable 716,000 album-equivalent units, which combines physical sales, digital sales, and streaming figures. This outstanding figure not only cements her position as a trailblazer in the music industry but also marks the largest week for any album in 2023. It is worth noting that this achievement follows her previous album, “Midnights,” which was released just last October and also had an exceptional performance.
What sets Swift’s achievement apart is that she didn’t achieve this milestone alone. Alongside “Speak Now,” three other albums have also secured spots in the Top 10. “Midnights” takes the impressive No. 5 spot, followed by “Lover” at No. 7, and “Folklore” at No. 10. This incredible achievement has not been seen since the charts began in 1963, making Swift the first living act, and most notably, the first woman to reach this milestone. The only other artist in history to accomplish a similar feat was US trumpeter Herb Alpert in 1966.
The significance of Swift’s achievement becomes even more apparent when considering that only one other artist, the late Prince, has managed to place at least four titles in the Top 10 simultaneously. Prince secured this accomplishment shortly after his death in 2016 with an astonishing five albums reaching the Top 10 posthumously.
Additionally, Swift has surpassed legendary artist Barbra Streisand’s record for the most No 1 albums by a female artist in history. Prior to this achievement, both Swift and Streisand were tied with 11 No 1 albums each. Now, Swift stands alone with 12 No 1 albums to her name, solidifying her impact and dominance in the music industry.
To further illustrate the magnitude of Swift’s success, her albums now account for four of the five biggest debuts in the last five years. The only album to break into this list alongside Swift is Adele’s 2021 album, “30,” which sits in the fourth spot, just ahead of “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”
