Intel Arrow Lake-S Projected to Outperform Raptor Lake CPU by up to 21%

Igor’sLAB recently obtained an internal presentation from Intel revealing performance projections for the upcoming Arrow Lake-S, the next-generation client platform. Although the platform’s launch is still some time away, the discussed data provides us with numerous details that would typically remain undisclosed for months.

The configuration of the ’15th Gen Core’ Arrow Lake-S CPU used for this comparison was chosen carefully to make the fairest comparison. The projected data is compared to the upcoming ’14th Gen Core’ Raptor Lake-S Refresh, which consists of 8 Performance and 16 Efficient cores—similar to Arrow Lake-S. One notable finding is that Arrow Lake’s PL1 and PL2 may be configured at 250W, which is slightly lower than Raptor Lake’s LGA1700 platform by 3W. However, this difference in power is unlikely to yield significant performance variations.

The data is normalized in comparison to the current flagship part, the Core i9-13900K, which shares the same configuration as both Arrow Lake-S and Raptor Lake-S in this comparison. Unfortunately, it is unclear from the presentation whether Arrow Lake-S will reach the same configuration as the Core i9-13900K or if Intel has something more substantial in store, as rumored, with additional cores.

A quick analysis of the data confirms that the ’14th Gen’ series will exhibit a performance increase ranging from one to four percent compared to the current offerings. Both charts illustrate this improvement. On the other hand, Arrow Lake-S, featuring an entirely new architecture, is projected to outperform the current lineup by 1% to 21%, depending on the benchmark used.

However, where Arrow Lake-S truly shines is in its graphics capabilities. The platform will leverage an Alchemist-based Xe-LPG design, equipped with up to 8 Xe Cores. The data indicates that GPU performance should exceed 2.2 times that of Raptor Lake’s integrated graphics. This news is particularly exciting for those anticipating Intel’s entry into the handheld gaming space and individuals seeking systems without discrete GPUs.

The report ends with a teaser of another story being prepared. Igor reveals that the LGA1851 socket for Arrow Lake-S CPUs will have a different Z-height, which automatically means that existing coolers may not be fully compatible without a necessary mounting kit upgrade.
