When he heard this Tuesday morning the announcement of the next 10% increase in the regulated electricity tariff on August 1, Christophe Balme, 52, was not surprised. “It was to be expected, believes this business manager. It hasn’t stopped growing for many years, it’s not going to stop now. For me, it’s a fatality, and we will never go back. »

This certainty does not date from today. Two years ago, Christophe took the bull by the horns by deciding to equip the roof of his house, in Martigues (Bouches-du-Rhône), with solar panels. “With 110 m2, a swimming pool and a jacuzzi, all electric, the bill kept on rising,” he explains. During the week, we are three. But on weekends, as we are a blended family, we can go up to six with our four children. We easily consumed 10,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year. Or at the time an invoice of 2,400 euros. We had to react. »

Do not hesitate to be accompanied

Christophe and his companion invest 7,000 euros to install the panels. With 1,200 euros retroceded over five years by EDF, as aid for self-consumption, they therefore spend 5,800 euros. “Paradoxically, the more electricity prices increase, the faster this investment is amortized,” observes Christophe. Initially, it took eight years, but gradually, it gets shorter. »

Result: Christophe halved his consumption, to around 5,000 kWh. With a bill to match: it is now around 1,300 euros over a full year. “Fortunately I have my solar panels. When the prices go up, of course that worries me, but I still have the feeling of passing a little between the drops. On the other hand, I’m thinking of all the households that don’t have the choice or the means to invest. Despite the aid, the remainder to be paid in many cases remains too high. Not to mention the scams. »

It prevents. Christophe still advises to embark on the adventure of self-consumption as soon as possible. By taking maximum precautions and comparing quotes. Even if it means being accompanied by specialized organizations if necessary. “If we have a few thousand euros to invest, solar and self-consumption will be much more profitable than the livret A or most banking products, that’s for sure! »
