8-year-old Srija Ghiraw tragically died last Monday at a GP clinic in Suriname. Her devastated mother, Hafsa, spoke to Waterkant.Net about the heartbreaking loss of her daughter.

According to Hafsa, Srija fell ill after gym class at school. The school contacted her parents and she was picked up, appearing a little limp. When they arrived home, Srija took a bath and later ate bread with sprinkles before going to sleep.

The following day, Srija returned to school for a rehearsal but her mother noticed that she had a fever and red eyes when picking her up. On Wednesday, her parents kept her home to rest. Srija seemed fine during the day, but her fever continued to rise in the evening.

On Thursday, Srija’s parents took her to the doctor who diagnosed her with a severe flu. She was given Paracetamol and advised to drink plenty of fluids. By Friday, her fever was still high and she began speaking gibberish, causing her mother to panic.

Seeking help, Hafsa followed the advice of another doctor and kept Srija in the shower for fifteen minutes to reduce her fever. The temperature fluctuated between 38 and 39 degrees.

On Saturday morning, Srija became weak and her parents took her to an infirmary where she was admitted for observation. The test results showed that Srija had contracted dengue. Her fever exceeded 40 degrees. After receiving day care treatment, she was discharged with medications for diarrhea and vomiting.

The treating doctor warned the parents to return to the hospital if Srija’s condition worsened. Thankfully, her fever subsided by Saturday evening and she showed improvement on Sunday. She no longer had a fever and vomiting but experienced some diarrhea. Her appetite returned and she enjoyed eating watermelon.

However, on the night from Sunday to Monday, Srija complained of stomach pain. The GP prescribed antibiotics for a possible bladder infection, which seemed to alleviate her lower abdomen pain. The mother fed her bread, but afterward, Srija began experiencing pain in her feet.

While the mother went to move her car, a neighbor arrived to assist. Sadly, when the mother returned, she found Srija breathing heavily and unable to move. Despite efforts to revive her and rushing her to the GP clinic, it was discovered that Srija had already passed away.

Srija’s parents had followed all the doctors’ advice, but within a week, they lost their beloved daughter. It is worth noting that Srija and her brother were involved in an accident at a recreational resort on May 8 last year, where a tree fell on them. Both children were hospitalized for a week before being discharged.

The cause of Srija’s sudden death remains unknown, and her grieving parents are left with unanswered questions and an unimaginable loss.]
