Strong earthquake shakes El Salvador and is felt in Costa Rica

A strong earthquake that shook El Salvador on Tuesday was felt in some parts of Costa Rica, according to the National Seismological Network of the University of Costa Rica (UCR).

The 6.5 Mw telluric movement was recorded at 6:22 pm 155 km southeast of the capital San Salvador.

“It was felt in Guanacaste, Puntarenas and the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM),” said the Seismological Network.

The origin of the tremor was due to subduction of the Cocos plate.

So far no deaths have been reported, only material damage.
