Jane Birkin had recently canceled concerts for health reasons. She was found dead at her Parisian home on Sunday. Idol of a whole generation, the Franco-British singer arrived in France at the end of the 1960s.

Asked by BFMTV, the musician Alain Chamfort paid tribute to a woman “very concerned by others”. He called Jane Birkin a “committed and tender” woman who “could not remain insensitive to the misfortunes of others”. He also expressed his admiration for the “very fragile” voice of Jane Birkin who carried “a real sincerity in the interpretation of the songs”.

His friend and singer Étienne Daho spoke on his Instagram account to leave a last message to the singer: “Jane, unimaginable to live in a world without your light. »

His former stage companion and actor Pierre Richard also reacted to his death: “Jane, so funny, so intelligent, so fragile, so generous, so everything! “A piece of my heart goes with her,” he acknowledged.

Another icon of the same generation, singer Françoise Hardy told RTL of her “great shock” when her son, Thomas Dutronc, told her the news. “I am very affected. I hope her death wasn’t too painful because she suffered enough as it was,” she said, referring to “a great artist” and “a great performer for Serge.” Singer Patrick Bruel and artist Sheila also hailed his memory on social media.

It is through a handwritten letter that the actress Brigitte Bardot displayed “her great sorrow”. “When you’re so pretty, so fresh, so spontaneous, with a child’s voice, you don’t have the right to die. She remains forever in our hearts! she wrote.

An “unforgettable icon”

On the political side, Elisabeth Borne hailed Jane Birkin on Sunday, “an unforgettable icon” who “transcended the generations” while Macron pays tribute to “a complete artist” who “sung the most beautiful words of our language”.

The former Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot greeted on BFMTV a woman of fights, engaged in the fight against AIDS or against homophobia. She regretted the death of “such an endearing personality” indicating that she had a thought for her daughters. Jane Birkin gave birth to Charlotte Gainsbourg, whom she had with singer Serge Gainsbourg, and Lou Doillon, whom she had with director Jacques Doillon.

For his part, the former Minister of Culture Jack Lang expressed his emotion paying tribute to a career of “extreme richness” and a singer “so sweet, so modest, so human, so divine”. “She was a model of kindness and an immense talent,” he added. He also wanted to recall that she was also “a wonderful theater actress”.

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, regretted the disappearance of the “most Parisian of English women” on her Twitter account, while the First Secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, remembers her as “the muse of an era”. The president of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, said she kept in mind “her charming accent, her generosity and her tangy voice, she had made us all fans of the sixties”.
