Bivalent vaccination against Covid-19 began with health personnel at risk – Ministry of Public Health

This Wednesday, July 19, 2023, the bivalent vaccination against Covid-19 began for health personnel who work in the areas of management of respiratory diseases such as pulmonology, ICU and emergency, of all establishments of the National Health System, which they will be vaccinated at their own workplaces.

The National Undersecretary for Health Surveillance, Prevention and Control, Francisco Pérez indicated that health personnel, who are in contact with people infected with Covid-19, will be immunized.

Next Monday, July 24, 2023, vaccination will begin for adults over 65 years of age; patients with serious conditions and chronic pathologies, in all Type C Health Centers of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).

Inoculation will be prioritized for people with:

Obesity. Chronic cardiovascular disease. Moderate or severe chronic respiratory disease. Diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2. Chronic kidney disease Chronic liver disease. HIV. Immunocompromised people. Solid organ or blood stem cell transplantation. Oncological and oncohematological patients. Active tuberculosis.

To receive the bivalent vaccine, the primary scheme and two boosters must have been completed, and after 6 months of the second booster, the bivalent vaccine for COVID-19 can be received. The MSP has a sufficient stock of bivalent vaccines distributed nationwide.

Although the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Covid-19 pandemic an end of public health emergency of international concern, it remains a global public health priority. Given this, the MSP recommends that the population continue with prevention measures such as hand hygiene with alcohol gel or soap and water and the use of a mask in case of suspicion of Covid-19 to avoid contagion.
