DECRYPTION – The good economic performance hardly benefits the socialist in Sunday’s elections.

Better growth in the euro zone, inflation back below 2%, lower unemployment… The Spanish economy is booming “like a motorbike”, according to its outgoing prime minister, the socialist Pedro Sanchez, the latter could, according to the polls, be beaten by the right-wing candidate, Alberto Nuñez Feijoo, this Sunday, during the early legislative elections which he called by surprise. The leader of the PSOE boasts of his record after five years at the Moncloa Palace, but voters seem ready to turn the page.

Spain, however, shows economic performance to rival its neighbors in the euro zone, collectively entered a technical recession this winter.
