The editorial staff of the JDD renewed its strike on Wednesday against the arrival at its head of Geoffroy Lejeune, before a rally near the National Assembly where a bill on the editorial freedom of the media was presented.

The renewal for 24 hours of the movement was approved by 98% of the voters (93 for, 2 against and 7 who do not decide), according to a press release from the Society of Journalists (SDJ) of the Sunday Journal.

The claims of the editorial staff remain the same. She calls on her management to “renounce the appointment of Geoffroy Lejeune” and to offer journalists “guarantees of legal and editorial independence”.

The journalists of the weekly, which remains on four unpublished issues, met this Wednesday morning near the National Assembly, where a cross-party bill aimed at protecting the editorial freedom of the media seeking state aid was presented. Several political figures were present including Mathilde Panot (LFI), Marine Tondelier (EELV) or Olivier Faure (PS).

A transpartisan bill in the Assembly

The text, carried by deputies from eight parliamentary groups (excluding RN and LR) on the initiative of the ecologist deputy Sophie Taillé-Polian, “aims to condition direct and indirect press aid on the establishment of a right of approval of journalists on the appointment of their managing editor”.

The previous week, PS senator David Assouline had also tabled a bill, supported by the socialist group, aimed at guaranteeing “the independence of editorial staff”, while the Elysée formalized the launch of the Estates General of the information in September.

The JDD, founded in 1948, must pass in October at the latest under the control of Vivendi, the group of billionaire Vincent Bolloré, after a successful takeover bid on Lagardère, owner of the title.
