Sales of used cars and SUVs accumulated a rise of 2.7% in the first half, with a total of 943,910 units, according to data from employers in the Faconauto (dealerships) and Ganvam (official and independent distributors) sector. In this way, so far this year, 1.9 used vehicles have been sold for each new vehicle.
The average price of used cars, although it continues to rise, is moderating. In the first semester it stood at 18,900 euros, which is 5.3% more, but eleven points less than in the same period of the previous year (then they were 17% more expensive).
Sales of 100% electric used passenger cars fell by 12.3% in the first semester, despite the fact that the supply of these vehicles has skyrocketed by 64% compared to the same semester of 2022.
Buying a used electric car in Spain is not cheap. On average, to get one of these models you have to pay 34,661 euros, on average. This amount is double what is paid for a second-hand diesel vehicle, 17,217 euros. In addition, its price does not stop growing: it did so by 7.3% in June, compared to the same month in 2022.
Regarding market trends, compact five-door vehicles are the ones that dominate the second-hand sales list, and among all of them there is a winning model.
The Volkswagen Golf has emerged as the preferred model for used vehicle buyers during the first half of 2023, after closing the first six months of the year with 30,304 units sold, registering 5.3% fewer operations than in the same period of 2022, according to data from Ganvam.

Second place on the list of best-selling models was for the SEAT Ibiza, with a total of 27,815 units, which is 2.7% less. After him, the third position on the podium was occupied, with 23,413 units, by the SEAT León, which reduced its sales by 0.9% in the first half. In this way, the Spanish team ended the first half of the year with two models among the three most popular used cars.

Closing the top five were the Renault Megane with 21,175 units sold, followed by the Ford Focus, which reached operations until June, both models falling 4.8% and 1.9% compared to the first half of 2022 respectively.

Completing the ‘top ten’ we find the Renault Clio in sixth position, after reaching 19,137 operations in the first six months of the year, which meant 2.1% less sales.
The list is completed by the BMW 3 Series, with 18,852 units sold (-7.9%); the Opel Corsa, with 17,680 units (+13.6%); the Opel Astra, with 15,154 units sold (-4.8%); and the Audi A3, which with 14,829 units sold up to July, with 0.3% more operations, closes the list of the ten most popular used models in Spain.
