This is a ten-second video that has circulated on social networks. We then discover the agony of a man in the Rennes metro. It’s 11:16 p.m., Monday, May 29. The victim has just been assaulted with a machete. Six of his arteries were severed. He staggers up the subway stairs. He loses a lot of blood. He leans against a railing that leads to the platform then collapses heavily on the steps.
At the bar of the court, an 18-year-old student lowers her eyes. This daughter of civil servants refuses to watch the scene which she has, however, filmed. The court accuses him of “complicity in violence”, “non-assistance to a person in danger” and “the dissemination of a video undermining the integrity of a person”. Moments after the video was captured, the student sent the file to her mother and her 20-year-old boyfriend. The latter, a slender man with a youthful face, is seated a few rows from her. He is accused with his 22-year-old sister of having posted the film on social networks.
Tatiana Abachkina, lawyer for the mother of the murdered man, is indignant: “This video stole my client’s son’s funeral. All the people present spoke only of these images showing the agony of a man who is filmed like a circus animal and to whom no help is given. » The prosecutor, Alice Barbe, opines and accuses the defendants of a “lack of humanity”.

Another film nevertheless demonstrates the complexity of the case. The projection of the video surveillance of the metro reveals the surprise of the young student when she discovers the traces of blood on the ground. It is at this moment that she has the “reflex” to grab his phone. She moves forward and is surprised when she discovers the dying man on the stairs. The young woman remains frozen for a few moments, cuts the recording then goes the opposite way to alert other passengers. They call the emergency services.
“A gentleman, homeless, used his T-shirt to help the victim. He tried cardiac massage. That must be the reflex in this kind of situation. Why did you film? », annoyed the president of the court. Tremolos in her voice, the student stammers: ” I panicked. I was afraid that there were still the attackers around. I was shocked. I apologize. I will not do it again. »
