REACTIONS. While the Algerian authorities have not yet officially reacted to Israel’s recognition of the Moroccanity of the Sahara, the press is speaking out.

Monday evening, July 17, by a tweet, Moroccan Foreign Affairs, quoting a press release from the Royal Palace, announced that, via a letter from Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel now recognized the “Moroccanness” of this former Spanish colony, which Morocco calls its “southern provinces”. “By this letter, the Israeli Prime Minister has brought to the very high attention of His Majesty the King [Mohammed VI] the decision of the State of Israel to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the territory of Western Sahara”, notes the Palace. The same letter from the Israeli Prime Minister specifies that Israel’s position will be “reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli government”.
