Former NFL star Deion “Prime” Sanders, now the head coach of the University of Colorado football team, will be absent from Pac-12 media day due to a blood clot procedure and additional foot surgeries. Sanders announced his unfortunate absence in a YouTube video on Wednesday.

In June, Sanders underwent surgery to remove blood clots in his left leg. However, it has been determined that he needs a “routine follow-up” surgery to eliminate blood clots in his right leg. Sanders expressed his disappointment, stating, “They already took care and got them out of this leg. Now, we gotta get them out of there.”

Sanders had previously mentioned that he would require multiple surgeries to improve blood flow in his legs by removing both blood clots. In 2021, while coaching at Jackson State, doctors had to amputate two toes from Sanders’ left foot to address circulation issues. However, he reassured fans in a previous video that there are currently no discussions of amputating his foot. Sanders emphasized the importance of taking care of his health to avoid such drastic measures.

Despite his health challenges, Sanders is determined to revitalize the Colorado football team, as he was appointed as their new head coach in December. Since his hiring, over 55 players from the team have entered the transfer portal, indicating the significant changes Sanders intends to make to the roster.

In Sanders’ absence, defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will represent Colorado at the Pac-12 media day. He will be joined by Shedeur Sanders, Sanders’ son and the team’s quarterback, as well as star defensive back Travis Hunter. The Colorado football team will kick off their regular season on September 2nd against the TCU Horned Frogs in Texas.

Despite the setback, Sanders remains committed to his role as head coach and is focused on leading the Colorado football team to success.
