President Andrés Manuel López Obrador explained in his morning conference that he will not denounce César de Castro, lawyer for the former security secretary, for having defamed him during the trial of former Secretary of Public Security, Genaro “G”, held in the United States, because the litigant “is highly protected” and “enjoys impunity”.
Faced with this impossibility of being able to denounce him, he mentioned that he consulted with lawyers and will send him a letter in the form of protest, which he will make known to the next person.
“It turns out that I consulted with lawyers and García Luna’s lawyer is very protected by law, he enjoys impunity and it is not possible, a complaint against him does not proceed. There is, let’s say theses, jurisprudence in the law in the United States, in the laws of the United States, which protect lawyers, they cannot be accused of defamation and non-material damage”, the president accused.

It should be noted that the first arrest warrant corresponds to the participation of Genaro “G” in the “Fast and Furious” case, where a large number of weapons were brought into the country; the second concerns the participation of the ex-secretary with patrimonial damage of more than 64 thousand 900 million due to the allocation of tenders at overprices in the construction and operation of various federal prisons; and the third refers to the criminal acts carried out by the former official in ten illegal contracts from the country’s public prisons, whose damage is estimated at 5 thousand 112 million pesos.
These arrest warrants are independent of the judicial process that the former head of security is carrying out in the United States.
Faced with this situation, the president criticized former President Felipe Calderón because he “does not want to help” in the investigations into the former secretary, who was “his right hand” during his administration.
“This Calderón does not want to help, they prefer to remain silent. I should speak, say that everything is false, that it was an invention of the United States government, the United States Attorney’s Office, the DEA, and that everything that is said about García Luna is not true, defend him, or say: ‘I made a mistake —that in politics mistakes are like crimes— and I invited him to participate and I gave him my trust, and he deceived me, but I did not know’, or ‘how I want to be a good Christian and speak the truth, which is what makes us free, because I did know and I was scared I think, and I place myself at the disposal of justice’.
