The IMSS Bienestar arose to replace the Insabi and provide medical attention to the population without social security.
The fear of losing their seniority and worse working conditions has caused a group of CDMX doctors to threaten to start a work stoppage.
So far, the incorporation of 5,339 specialist doctors and the transfer of 253 hospitals, 21 specialized medical units and 4,146 health centers have been achieved.

Health in the country’s capital is at a difficult time and even the doctors have threatened to start a work stoppage. Behind this decision is the agreement with which the CDMX joins the IMSS Well-being. To date there are many doctors who oppose this measure because they affirm that it will have a negative impact on their working conditions.

Is the IMSS Well-being the solution?

As a recapitulation, it is necessary to remember that this new model arose to replace the disappeared Institute of Health for Well-being (Insabi). Therefore, its ultimate goal is to provide medical care to all people without social security.

In fact, it is also one of the bases to fulfill the maximum promise of the universal healthcare and have a system like Denmark’s. Although one of the problems is that they only think about the patients and not those in charge of providing care.

The expectations are too high and even the general director of the IMSS, Zoe Robledoassured that IMSS Bienestar will be the largest public health care service provider in the world.

This model has been applied gradually in a large part of the national territory. So far, more than twenty states have signed the agreement to be part of the program. In this regard, Robledo himself has said that in the entities in which he already operates there has been an increase in productivity.

However, one of the most recent entities to join the IMSS Bienestar is Mexico City. Although the document has already been signed, the transition has not yet begun because there is strong resistance from health professionals.

Throughout the last few days there have been road closures and demonstrations on public roads to prevent its implementation. Although despite the opinion of the doctors, the authorities maintain their position.

CDMX doctors could make a work stoppage

Faced with this situation, a a group of CDMX doctors threatened to start a work stoppage. Broadly speaking, what they demand is that their working conditions are not affected.

At this time there is a fear that the arrival of the IMSS Bienestar will cause the loss of seniority and benefits in the doctors and other elements. In addition, it has also been questioned whether this change will achieve the basicization of all workers in the health sector.

To date, it is estimated that there are just over 80,000 people in this area throughout the country who work for fees. In some cases they have even been using this model for decades and despite frequent complaints they have not achieved real changes.
