The morning of this Thursday, the 20th, will see two adverse weather events in Brazil: rain and a gale. In both cases, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issues, in its weather forecast, a warning of “potential danger” for the eventual occurrence of damage.

With regard to rainfall, the Inmet reveals that, in the Southeast, there is a risk of accumulations of up to 50 millimeters in the strip that extends along the entire coast of the States of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and goes to the middle of the coast of Espírito Santo. In this area, the agency indicates the risk — albeit low — of flooding and small landslides.

In this sense, the agency presents three instructions:

Avoid facing bad weather; Observe changes in the slopes; and Avoid using electronic devices plugged in.

The rains also cause Inmet to issue a “potential danger” alert for the area that encompasses the northwest of Amazonas and the west of roraima. In this case, the weather forecast indicates accumulations of up to 50 millimeters, but with the company of intense winds – up to 60 kilometers per hour.

For this part of the North of the country, the institute warns that the risks are cuts in electricity, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges (lightning and thunder).

“In case of gusts of wind: do not take shelter under trees, as there is a slight risk of falling and electrical discharges and do not park vehicles close to transmission towers or advertising signs”, warns the Inmet team. “Avoid using electrical appliances plugged in.”

The “potential danger” alert for this Thursday morning goes beyond the rains. This is because the Inmet weather forecast also addresses any damage that may be caused by gales and coastal winds.

The occurrence of coastal winds will occur, above all, along a good part of the northeastern coast: from the south of Bahia to the north of Ceará. This condition may have the potential, according to Inmet, to move sand dunes.

Finally, coastal winds are indicated over a large portion of the northeastern interior, in addition to extending over parts of western Tocantins, north of Minas Gerais, the Federal District and western Goiás. In this range, there is a risk of falling branches and trees. Wind gusts, by the way, can reach 60 kilometers per hour.
