Yoshimura has filed your complete exhaust system for the new Suzuki Hayabusa, an authentic goldsmith’s work baptized as Yoshimura R-11Sq that marks a milestone in the history of this historic exhaust manufacturer as it is the first system made entirely of titanium, without using stainless steel parts.

Despite the fact that Yoshimura -and those of other manufacturers- have been selling products under the ‘Full Titanium’ label for decades, the truth is that inside these systems there were still some parts made of steel to ensure its durability and resistance at high temperatures, thus sacrificing the extra lightness provided by titanium.

However, the new Yoshimura R-11Sq boasts of being made of titanium from start to finishexcluding the final cup of the carbon fiber silencer for purely aesthetic reasons.

This complete exhaust system, from the manifolds to the tail, has been approved to comply with Japanese emission and noise regulations, and according to Yoshimura the weight savings are considerable: of the 20.5 kilos that the complete exhaust of the Hayabusa 1300 weighs, the Japanese specialist has designed a set that stops the scale at 8.4 kilos, that is, less than half.

A detail that also debuts the new R-11Sq, already seen in competition, It’s the titanium security grille that tops off the tailpipe. Yoshimura has been using this protection in its racing exhaust systems for years to prevent gravel from entering the muffler in the event of a crash, and although they had never implemented it before in a street system, their engineers have realized that this grille also improves the distribution of exhaust gases, and they have decided to install it.

As it is a complete exhaust assembly approved for use on public roads (only in Japan, in Europe it does not comply with Euro5 regulations), the power gain is not as remarkable as the weight saving; Yoshimura does not offer an exact power figure on his website, although he does publish a dyno graph where a notable gain can be seen after 5,000 laps, increasing the final power to the wheel by approximately 5 hp (165 hp with stock exhaust, 170 hp with Yoshimura system).

The exclusivity of this Yoshimura R-11Sq will also be noted in its price; this complete titanium system can now be ordered in Japan at a price of 3,490 euros taxes includedbecoming the most expensive street system in the entire catalog of the Nakatsu-based manufacturer.

For Europe, Yoshimura will offer a version of this R-11Sq valid for Euro5 regulations; in this case it is only the silencer and it is made of stainless steel, although it can be ordered with a titanium cover with a bluish tone. The European exhaust represents a saving of 4.9 kilos compared to the pair of original silencers, and according to the Japanese brand there is no gain in terms of power, following the curve of the original exhaust system.
