Felipe VI participated this Friday in the closing ceremony of the 28th edition of the World Law Congress, held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, where he called for the values of the European Union at a time in history when there was “a clash of world views” over the war in Ukraine and advocated the European vision over another “based on force, repression, intolerance and exclusion”.

In a context of war in Ukraine and times of polarization, Felipe VI has assured that the European Union “needs” a “strong” European Commission. “At a time when our institutions and rules are increasingly being questioned, the European Commission has shown us the value of moderation and centrality as the key to doing politics”, he highlighted.
“These actions and attitudes are at the heart of democracy and essential to preserve it. Because as Europeans I think we clearly share the belief that democracy is the soul of Europe today,” he added.
Felipe VI has told Von der Leyen that he “can always count” on Spain, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU, in safeguarding the European project.
