The 20 Hours of July 21 takes you to the heart of the Mercantour National Park, in the hinterland of Nice. Breathtaking panorama, prehistoric engravings, culinary gems, there are all the ingredients for an unforgettable trip.

20 km as the crow flies from the Mediterranean rise steep reliefs, winding roads and picturesque villages. It is the Mercantour. To find it, you have to climb it. Three hours suspended on the side of a cliff between 15 and 50 meters above the ground. “These were routes to facilitate the passage of passes in Italy, it was mainly used by soldiers”, says Maxime Langgartner, climbing instructor, member of the guide office. The panorama is breathtaking despite the progressive difficulty.

About 40,000 engravings on the site

For Martin, 9 years old, it’s a walk in the park. “There are lots of obstacles, it’s cool”, rejoices the young boy. Understanding the environment and its vertigo becomes the ultimate test. If the cliffs are places of leisure today, they have been surveyed for millennia. In the heart of the Mercantour park, our ancestors left traces like engravings, on the border between writing and worship. “On the site, we have about 40,000 engravings, and even then, we haven’t referenced everything”, says Thomas Paul, official Vallée des Merveilles guide. This is enough to move tourists.
