Supermarkets offer ways to eat vegetables and fruit quickly in order to eat healthily even in stressful everyday life. Some are harmful to health.

Kassel – There are many supposedly healthy foods that can actually be carcinogenic or contaminated with germs. Hidden sugar can also promote obesity and cancer. Especially when it needs to be done quickly, but you don’t want to do without healthy food and use ready-made products.

According to the German Nutrition Society, processed red meat has long been classified as “probably carcinogenic”. Many are therefore switching to vegan or vegetarian alternatives. A current eco-test has now examined vegan burger patties and found potentially carcinogenic MOAH (aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons).

Carcinogenic substance detected in tin cans

Washing, peeling, or cutting vegetables or fruit can sometimes be quite a chore. The alternative from the can, on the other hand, is prepared quickly. However, the substance bisphenol A, which is used in the manufacture of the plastic polycarbonate and epoxy resins, has now been detected in the food. According to European chemicals legislation, bisphenol A is suspected of increasing the risk of cancer and even being a danger to the unborn baby in motherhood. The substance was found in tomato cans in a particularly concentrated form.

There are now also quick alternatives for the salad that save you from chopping and washing. You can often buy it ready to eat in plastic packaging. But the Max Rubner Institute found out in 2019 that lettuce that has already been cut contains a large number of germs. The reason for the multiplication of the germs is that the lettuce loses cell sap through the cuts, which, in combination with the plastic packaging, offers a breeding ground for fungi and bacteria.

Hidden sugar can increase the risk of cancer in the long term

An avoidably healthy snack or breakfast can be a real sugar trap. Regularly consuming too much sugar can lead to obesity. The link between obesity and the development of cancer has been scientifically confirmed several times by the German Cancer Society. Juices or other sugary drinks should, therefore, be drunk in small quantities and diluted.

– Cornflakes – often contain added sugar
– Energy bars – may also contain large amounts of sugar
– Popcorn – In addition to sugar, it usually also contains diacetyl, this butter flavor can lead to scarring of the lung tissue over time
– Juices or smoothies – contain a lot of fructose and often also added sugar
– Obstjogurt – Often contains large amounts of added sugar

A study by Öko-Test from 2020 was able to detect pesticides in many mueslis. These can be carcinogenic and change the human genome. Therefore, caution is also required here.

Organic products are generally considered healthy because they contain fewer harmful substances. Manufacturers often use the word “organic” to advertise their products to make them appear healthier. In fact, even an organic pizza or a bag of organic chips can contain a lot of sugar and salt.

A balanced diet and sufficient exercise can reduce the risk of cancer

If you want to do without sugar and use sweeteners instead, you should be careful with the substance aspartame. This should news agency Reuters classified by the WHO as “possibly carcinogenic to humans”. However, it is currently still being examined in which quantities the sweetener can be classified as harmless.

Lower cancer risk with food: broccoli, garlic, onion, and leek can protect

The German Cancer Research Center generally recommends a balanced diet in combination with sufficient exercise. When choosing foods, it is better to use unprocessed foods.]
