Once again, the twitter account, Maps.Interlude, provides a descriptive map with data from EU agencies. On this occasion it is the number of Hectares burned by forest fires produced naturally or by man in 2022. Ukraine, given the situation of the Russian invasion, is the most affected, with almost 454,000 Ha, followed by the fires in Spain (almost 300,000 Ha) and almost 150,000 Ha in Romania.
The data comes from European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS)for its acronym in English) that thanks to the Copernicus program of the EU offers coverage in the protection of forests against fires in the EU and in neighboring countries and provides the services of the European Commission and the European Parliament with updated and reliable information on forest fires in Europe.
Southern Europe is the most affected by the fires, and along with those named, Portugal, Serbia and Croatia stand out. France, with more than 65,000 hectares, also offers relevant data, along with the more than 20,000 hectares in the United Kingdom, where it stands out from the rest of the northern European countries.
