Americans Lukewarm on Potential Biden-Trump Rematch in 2024, Poll Shows

A recent Yahoo News/YouGov poll has revealed that American voters are not particularly enthusiastic about the possibility of President Joe Biden going head-to-head with former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race.

When asked to choose between the two presidents in a hypothetical 2024 matchup, both candidates received support from less than 50 percent of registered U.S. voters surveyed. Biden stood at 47 percent, while Trump garnered 43 percent. The remaining respondents consisted of 9 percent who were unsure and 4 percent who said they would not vote.

The poll also delved into public opinion on the performance of the two presidents. Only 40 percent of respondents stated that they “strongly” or “somewhat” approved of Biden’s handling of the presidency. Similarly, only 38 percent expressed a “very” or “somewhat” favorable opinion of Trump.

In addition, both Biden and Trump received low ratings when it came to perceptions of their fitness for the highest office in the United States. Just 27 percent of respondents believed Biden would be fit to serve another term as president, while 36 percent had the same view of Trump.

The survey, conducted between July 13 and July 17, 2023, consisted of 1,638 U.S. adults. The margin of error was plus or minus 2.7 percent.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, these poll results highlight the lack of overwhelming support for either Biden or Trump amongst the American electorate. It remains to be seen whether these perceptions will evolve or change as the race progresses.
