Frankfurt – Many individuals with illness-related impairments in their daily lives are unaware that they can apply for a degree of disability (GdB). These individuals often face high expenses and require support in various areas of their lives. A degree of disability of 30 can provide significant advantages such as wage subsidies, protection against dismissal, and special tools at the workplace. But which diseases qualify for such an application?

In order to apply for a degree of disability, individuals must have physical, mental, intellectual, or impairments that prevent them from fully participating in social life for at least six months. Chronic diseases often lead to these impairments.

The Institute in Karlsruhe has published a list of illnesses that can be classified with a disability grade of 30. Rheumatism, in particular, can result in a degree of disability with minor effects. The same is true for individuals with muscle disorders or moderate to severe impairment from spinal diseases such as deformity.

According to the Association of Substitute Health Insurance Funds (VdEK), diseases are classified into 17 main categories. These categories include diseases affecting all human organs, as well as the blood, metabolism, and immune system. To be approved for a disability grade of 30, the impairment does not necessarily have to affect the musculoskeletal system but can also involve internal organs, such as the esophagus, lungs, stomach, colon, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and fractions.

In addition, chronic hepatitis with mild inflammation, controllable diabetes, and lipid disorders requiring regular monitoring of LDL levels can result in a disability grade of 30. Cardiovascular diseases can significantly restrict the everyday lives of those affected. Individuals moderately affected by a heart valve defect or other heart diseases can apply for a grade of 30.

It should be noted that a mental illness, such as depression or a phobia, can also impact the degree of disability. However, the responsible pension office must clarify whether this classification is applicable. Necessary medical records, evidence of hospitalization, or laboratory reports must be presented for consideration.

The determination of the degree of disability can also be made retrospectively. Depending on the illness, the disability card can be limited to up to five years. Those with a disability grade of 20 can still enjoy certain tax advantages.

However, it is important to consult with medical professionals for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Medication intake or dietary supplements should be discussed with a doctor beforehand.
