Sheer madness. A “Pinot bend” in a state of ecstasy welcomed its hero in the Petit Ballon on Saturday during the 20th stage of the Tour de France. For several hundred meters, the regional of the stage was acclaimed and sung by its Collectif Ultras Pinot, present for many hours in the Vosges summit.
The icing on the cake, the celebration was total, since Thibaut Pinot passed “his” corner alone in the lead, after having distanced his pursuers. With a lead of around thirty seconds, the Franc-Comtois was able to take advantage of this unprecedented crowd bath, which allowed him to race in the lead for many kilometers, before cracking against Jonas Vingegaard, Felix Gall and Tadej Pogacar in the Markstein.
Pinot is competing in his last mountain stage on the Tour de France, since he will retire at the end of this season, at the age of 33.
