They have shrunk dramatically this year the areas with vegetablesgrown both outdoors and in greenhouses, shows operational analysis of the Ministry of Agriculture published today.

As it goes, soon the greenhouses will be visited as museums of Bulgarian vegetable production

Cabbage production has decreased the most. From 1,285 hectares in mid-July last year, this year the crunchy vegetable is grown on only 454 hectares (minus 64.7%). In 2020, the areas with cabbage were 1,460 ha, and in 2021, 1,394 ha.

Tomatoes grown outdoors have fallen below the critical 20,000 acres. In July 2022, they occupied 2251 ha, and this year they are on 1731 ha. The reduction is calculated at 23.1 percent. We remind you that this most basic vegetable occupied 2586 ha in 2020, and 2427 ha in 2021.

This year pepper grows in the open air on 1988 ha, last year it was on 2296 ha, in 2021 on 2866 ha, and in the pandemic year 2020 on 2597 ha.

Due to the lack of coupled support for table potatoes, and probably for other reasons, potato areas have decreased from 9,082 ha in 2022 to 6,717 ha this year. With them, the minus is 26%.

The areas of tomatoes and cucumbers in greenhouses have also decreased.

Last year tomatoes were on 435 ha, and this year they are on 406 ha (-6.7%).
