The Formula 1 race in Hungary can also be viewed for free. In addition, rights holder Sky wants to attract young viewers with a special campaign.

Three children as a reporter and celebrity commentator Frank Buschmann should bring Formula 1 closer to a younger audience on Sky. The Sky Next Generation campaign will have its premiere in motorsport on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. on the pay channel. The reporter talents Phoenix (12) and Karl (14) will then comment on the eleventh round of the season at the Hungaroring alongside Buschmann and racing driver Sophia Flörsch. Ten-year-old Ruby conducts interviews at the side of the track together with Sky reporter Sandra Baumgartner.

Formula 1 supports the special transmission with graphics and animations tailored for children. In addition, avatars of all 20 Formula 1 drivers should liven up the show. At Sky there were already similar campaigns for younger viewers during football broadcasts. According to the broadcaster, 600,000 people watched.

Sky will also offer the normal live coverage of the race in Budapest free of charge on Sunday. The pictures from Hungary can also be seen on the YouTube channel and in the Sky Sport app as well as on “skysport.de”. It is the second race after the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona in May that Sky will broadcast in this way.

Sky has been the only provider in Germany to show all Formula 1 races since 2021. RTL had sub-licensed four races in each of the past two years, but decided against a new contract with the pay-TV broadcaster at the beginning of the year. The search for an RTL successor was unsuccessful. According to the contract with Formula 1, four races per season must be free-to-air. (dpa)
