Elon Musk Announces Plans to Change Twitter’s Logo

July 23 (Reuters) – In a surprising move, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter that he is planning to change the social media platform’s iconic logo. Musk tweeted, “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.” The billionaire owner went on to say that if a good enough “X” logo is posted, the change will go live worldwide the following day.

Musk accompanied his tweet with an image of a flickering “X,” but no further details were given. The company has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the potential logo change.

This announcement comes amid Musk’s tumultuous tenure as the owner of Twitter since acquiring the company in October. Under his leadership, the company changed its business name to X Corp, reflecting Musk’s vision to create a “super app” similar to China’s WeChat.

However, Twitter’s website emphasizes that its logo, which depicts a blue bird, is “our most recognizable asset” and that the company is protective of it. It remains to be seen how users and stakeholders will react to a logo change.

Notably, this won’t be the first time Twitter experiments with its logo. In April, the bird was temporarily replaced by Dogecoin’s Shiba Inu dog, resulting in a substantial increase of up to $4 billion in the cryptocurrency’s market value.

In addition to the logo change announcement, Twitter is currently facing legal complications. A lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, claiming that the company owes at least $500 million in severance pay to former employees. Musk’s company has already laid off more than half of Twitter’s workforce to cut costs.

It remains to be seen whether Musk’s plans for a Twitter logo change will come to fruition and how it will impact the social media platform’s users and overall brand identity.
