Four people, including two minors, were reported missing on Saturday due to flooding that unleashed heavy rains in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, police said.

The children were in a car that was submerged, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said. Three of the five people who were in the vehicle managed to escape.

In a separate incident, two other people were reported missing under similar circumstances in this eastern province, authorities said.

Residents of the town of Windsor received evacuation orders in the middle of the night due to the risk at the dam, although the opening of relief valves early Saturday reduced the pressure and the situation “is under control,” Windsor Mayor Abraham Zebian said.

Images from local media and on social networks showed roads that looked like rivers and many abandoned cars in the middle of the water.

Nova Scotians were warned to stay in their homes as many roads were cut off.
