The story could have been dramatic: what could be more dangerous than taking a wrong-way road? This is what happened on Saturday, around 7:30 p.m., on the N 2, near Saint-Mard. When the gendarmes – who were organizing a roadside checks operation – signaled to a motorist, he pretended to stop… before fleeing.
A chase followed on the national road towards Soissons. The driver of the fleeing Renault Twingo – who had the military on his trail – did not hesitate to crash into their vehicle, which – at one point – was on his right. He tried to push him off the road several times. A little further on, the driver suddenly made a U-turn and found himself in the opposite direction on the N 2, a two-lane road. Direction Paris. And this, for about 2 km, despite the traffic.
Research until 10:30 p.m.
Luckily, no other vehicle was hit and no one was injured. The driver then had a traffic accident. He abandoned his car on the spot and fled running through the fields, with two other people it seems. The gendarmes started looking for them. Twenty soldiers, supported by a helicopter, were mobilized until 10:30 p.m. In vain, the trio evaporated. The research brigade of the Meaux company is in charge of an investigation for “refusal to comply, violence against a person holding public authority and endangering the lives of others”.
