Latin American airlines had the only positive results in cargo volumes, compared to May 2022, with an increase of 3.6%.
Registrations in the region improve compared to April (-1.6%), while capacity in the month under review increased by 14.7% year-on-year.
In his overall analysis, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) acknowledges that the May 2023 air cargo exhibited weak market conditions.
Global demand, measured in cargo ton-kilometres (CTKs), fell by 5.2% compared to May 2022 (-6.0% for international operations).
Capacity, measured in available cargo ton-kilometres (ACTKs), increased by 14.5% compared to May 2022, driven primarily by hold capacity, which has been increasing as demand in the passenger sector recovers. Capacity is currently 5.9% above May 2019 (pre-pandemic) levels.
