David Letterman Makes Surprise Appearance at Hy-Vee Store in Iowa

by time news

Former Late Night host David Letterman made a surprise appearance at a Hy-Vee grocery store in Iowa on Friday. The iconic late night host was seen wearing an apron and a personalized name tag in a photo shared on the store’s Facebook page. The caption read, “You never know who you’ll bump into while shopping the aisles at Hy-Vee.”

In a video posted on Letterman’s Instagram page, he can be seen telling the store manager about his love for grocery stores and how he spent a considerable amount of his life in one in Indianapolis. He jokes, “And if I can give something back to the marketing community, I would like to do that – but I don’t have all day, of course.”

The video shows Letterman bagging groceries, eating uncooked minestrone soup, and even announcing over the store’s loudspeaker that celery is free for the day. It seems that Letterman’s appearance at the grocery store was motivated by his racing team’s participation in the Hy-Vee IndyCar Race in Des Moines over the weekend.

While Letterman’s stint as a grocery store employee may have been racing-related, another unlikely celebrity job was recently revealed. Singer Lana Del Rey was spotted working as a waitress at a Waffle House in Alabama. Videos of her serving customers from behind the counter began circulating on social media last week.

Del Rey has also been seen at a local nail salon and Starbucks, and she even took the time to sign a namesake poster for a fan while wearing her Waffle House uniform in a parking lot. CNN has reached out to Del Rey’s representative for comment on her unexpected job.

Both Letterman and Del Rey join the growing list of famous faces who have surprised unsuspecting patrons by working in various service jobs. Earlier this year, actor and director Ben Affleck worked a shift at Dunkin’ to film a funny commercial for the Super Bowl. Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Maddix also spent a shift at a Raising Cane’s drive-thru window in Southern California.

It seems that celebrities are finding unique ways to connect with their fans and experience different aspects of everyday life. Whether it’s bagging groceries or serving customers at a Waffle House, these surprise appearances certainly make for memorable moments.
